The structure of the SSC consists of one chairman, two other members, and one Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations.

History of SSC

The idea of the SSC was proposed in the Parliament in the session of 1967-68 with the main objective of providing government to those people who belong to the low rank. By the year 1975, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms officially established the Subordinate Service Commission and on the 26th of September 1977, it was renamed and got its current identity. New guidance was implemented along with a new constitution on the 1st of July 1999. The SSC still works according to the same guidelines issued in 1999.

Exams Being Conducted by the SSC

SSC has been conducting several examinations for recruiting personnel for various posts lying vacant in government departments and agencies. Following is the list of exams that are held by the SSC every year.

  • The SSC CGL exams are held every year by the SSC to recruit personnel for the Group B and Group C posts available in government organisations.
  • SSC CHSL is an exam conducted in two phases for the recruitment of personnel in lower ranks jobs like clerks, Postal assistants, Operator, and others.
  • SSC MTS is an exam conducted annually in two phases for posts that will require multi-tasking from candidates. 
  • SSC CPO is an annual exam conducted by the SSC for the recruitment of personnel in the Central Police Organisation.
  • THE SSC GD exam is held every year for the recruitment of personnel in posts available in the armed forces in departments like BSF, CISF, ITBP, and CRPF. 
  • The SSC Stenographer exam is held by the SSC for recruitment of personnel under Group C non-gazetted and Group D posts available in government organizations.
