The Supreme Court has issued its final decision on the NEET UG 2024 exams, ruling that no retest will be conducted. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed this decision, emphasizing that truth prevails, and confirmed that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the revised NEET UG results within two days. The revised results are expected by July 25, 2024. The Supreme Court dismissed the petitions from students demanding the cancellation and retest of the NEET UG exams, finding no substantial evidence of a widespread leak or systemic breach affecting the exam’s integrity. The NTA is set to announce the updated results this week, taking into account the correct answers for disputed physics questions. This announcement follows a contentious period, where the NEET UG 2024 was criticized for errors in exam management.

In an unusual outcome, this year’s all-India rank 1 was shared by 67 students. Six of these students received additional marks due to lost time caused by invigilator errors. Another 44 students were ranked among the top due to receiving grace marks for a controversial physics question. With the Supreme Court’s decision to accept only the correct answer for the physics question, the revised results will adjust the rankings. Specifically, the 44 students who initially received grace marks will now have their scores adjusted to 715 out of 720. Consequently, they will be ranked behind those who scored higher. Additionally, the 14 students who scored the perfect 720 and the 70 others with 716 marks will be ranked above these 44 candidates.

NEET UG 2024 Merit List Revised

Following the Supreme Court’s order, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will update the NEET UG 2024 merit list based on the expert panel’s recommendation from IIT Delhi regarding the controversial Physics question. Initially, NTA had awarded four marks to students who selected either of the two correct answers. However, the revised merit list will now only grant marks for the answer deemed correct by the committee.

As a result, over 4 lakh students who followed the old NCERT textbook answer will lose five marks. This change will cause a significant reshuffling of ranks. This year, 23.33 lakh candidates appeared for NEET UG on May 5, 2024, and results were initially announced on June 4, 2024. After objections, NTA conducted a retest for affected candidates on June 23, 2024, with revised results released on June 30, 2024.

NEET UG 2024 Revised Result Impact

With the release of the revised NEET UG 2024 results, candidates’ ranks will be adjusted. The Supreme Court ruled that only one correct answer would be accepted for the controversial physics question. As a result, 44 candidates, who previously received grace marks, will see their scores revised to 715 out of 720. They will now be ranked below the 14 candidates who scored a perfect 720 and the 70 candidates with 716 marks.

Additionally, the cut-off scores have increased significantly. This year, the cut-off for general and general-PH category candidates has risen from 720-137 to 720-164. The NTA calculates the NEET UG percentile based on the highest marks in the all-India merit list, so this will also change. Out of 24,06,079 registered students, 23,33,297 appeared for the exam.
