The PM Matru Vandana Yojana is an Indian scheme launched in the year 2010 with the primary objective of providing maternity benefits to new mothers so that they can focus entirely on the health of the newborn and their own. The scheme is administered and implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna was first introduced with the name Indra Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojna in the year 2010 and then was implemented again on the 1st of January 2017. It is a scheme under which the government provides support to new mothers across the country according to the National Food Security Act of 2013. Administered by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, this scheme proved to be helpful for women belonging to rural areas or women with low economic status who often struggle to take adequate care of themselves during pregnancy.

PM Matru Vandana Yojana Objectives 

The scheme was launched with the main goal of providing new and lactating mothers with proper care and medical assistance to ensure healthy mothers and healthy children. Under the PM Matru Vandana Yojana, the government aims to provide:-

  • Cash assistance to all the new and lactating mothers and help them get enough rest before and after delivery of the child.
  • Better nutrition for newborns in order to reduce malnutrition and infant mortality rates.
  • Health services and encouraging the use of maternal and neonatal health facility delivery for reducing the risks of HTP in both women and newborns.

PM Matru Vandana Yojana Eligibility 

The women who wish to receive the benefits of this scheme must ensure that they pass the following eligibility criteria specified by the government before registration.

  • It is their first child and the pregnancy began after the 1st of January 2017.
  • The mother should not be less than 19 years old. 
  • The household of the mothers should meet the income criteria specified by the government.
  • They must register their pregnancy at an Aanganwadi centre or any other medical facility approved.
  • Those who are taxpayers or those who are employed by the government are not eligible. 
  • The scheme has also been extended to two live childbirths in case of twins, miscarriages, and stillbirth of the first baby.
  • The scheme will also provide support if the second child is a girl.

PM Matru Vandana Yojana Benefits

The women who have registered themselves for the scheme will receive the following benefits during their pregnancies.

  • While carrying the first child the mother will receive the first instalment which is a sum of Rs 3000/- in her bank account provided that the mother has registered her pregnancy and has done at least one Antenatal check-up within 6 months from the last period. At an Aanganwadi centre or an approved medical facility.
  • After the birth of the first child, the mother will receive the second instalment which is a sum of Rs 2000/- in her bank account provided that the birth of the child has been registered and the child has received all the vaccines up to 14 weeks under the Universal Immunization Programme. 
  • In case the second child is a girl the mother will receive a single instalment of Rs 6000/- provided that her pregnancy has been registered and has done at least one Antenatal check-up within 6 months from the last period at an Aanganwadi centre or an approved medical facility, and the birth of the child has been registered and the child has also received all the vaccinations up to 14 weeks under the Universal Immunization Programme. 
  • In case of miscarriage or stillbirth during the first child, the mother can register again for the scheme as a fresh case.

PM Matru Vandana Yojana Registration Process

In order to register themselves for receiving the benefits of this scheme, the women interested may follow the steps given below. 

  • Step 1: Go to the official website of the ministry and click on “Citizen Login”. 
  • Step 2: Go to the email ID that is registered, check the phone number and verify it.
  • Step 3: Fill in all the required credentials and then click “Create Account”.
  • Step 4: Now click login from the homepage
  • Step 5: Fill in your user ID, password and the captcha.
  • Step 6: Click on “Data Entry” and then proceed to “Beneficiary Registration”.
  • Step 7: Fill in the information required.
  • Step 8: Select if it is your first or second child.
  • Step 9; Click “Submit”. 

Make sure you also register yourself in the nearest AWC or an approved medical facility. 

PM Matru Vandana Yojana Documents Required

The documents that you need to submit along with the registration form are an Aadhaar card, a savings account that is linked to the Aadhaar card in the bank or in the post office, bank details, eligibility proof, MCP/RCHI card, the dates including LMP, ANC dates, birth certificate of the child, the vaccination details of the child.
